1. Brief & product selection — Tell us your brand positioning, target customer, and the products you want to launch. We’ll guide you through our formula library and recommend the best matches for your brief.
2. Customisation — Select your shades (for colour products), fragrance options (where applicable), and packaging. We can source and procure packaging or work with your own.
3. Sampling — We produce pre-production samples for your review and approval. You’ll have the chance to test the product exactly as your customers will experience it.
4. Regulatory sign-off — Every product requires a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) before it can be sold in the UK. We facilitate this process alongside accredited safety assessors.
5. Production & delivery — Once samples are approved and compliance is in order, we move to full production. Finished goods are delivered to your specified address.

What is the difference between private label and contract manufacturing?

Private label means selecting from our library of existing, tested formulas and presenting them under your own branding. Contract manufacturing means commissioning a new formula developed specifically for you from scratch. Private label is faster and lower cost; contract manufacturing gives you a unique, proprietary formula with full IP ownership.

How quickly can I get a private label product to market?

Most private label projects move from brief to finished stock in 8–12 weeks, depending on product type, packaging procurement, and regulatory sign-off timing. We can give you a more accurate timeline once we know your product selection and packaging choice.

Do I own the formula if I go private label?

No — with private label, you are using SCL’s existing formula under licence. Other brands may use the same base formula with different branding and packaging. If you need exclusive ownership of the formula, our bespoke contract manufacturing service is the right route.

What is the minimum order for private label cosmetics?

Do I need a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR)?

Yes — a CPSR is a legal requirement for every cosmetic product sold in the UK. SCL facilitates this process alongside accredited safety assessors. Even though you’re using an existing formula, the CPSR must be completed for your specific product and label.

Can I create my own shades in a private label colour product?

For colour cosmetics, we can adjust shades within the parameters of our existing formula systems — this covers most practical requirements. If you need a truly unique pigment or shade that our current library can’t deliver, that would move into bespoke territory. We’ll always tell you clearly which route makes sense for your brief.

What happens if I want to move from private label to a bespoke formula later?

We actively support this transition. Many brands begin with private label for speed and switch to bespoke formulation once they understand their market and are ready to invest in a proprietary formula. Your account team will help plan the migration with minimal disruption to your product supply.
